Steven Bremner began his early years in the arts as a classically trained ballet dancer. This lead to an esteemed career in the performing arts field. This over 15 years as a principal artist with numerous prestigious dance companies across the globe.
Steven is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and composer. His songwriting is both rock ‘n’ roll and transcendental with evocative, storytelling lyrics. Growing up surrounded by the music and counter culture of the 1960’s and 70’s, Steven was deeply influenced from this era. Since his songwriting career began, he has released 6 albums and 18 singles.
Michael grew up in a musical family and has been performing since he was a child. Originally from Lincoln, Nebraska, USA, Michael has performed in over 50 countries on five continents. He has also appeared on multiple TV shows and viral videos with international recording artists, Metro Vocal Group.
Michael uses his professional experience to teach singers of all ages. His unique voice can be also be heard on the airwaves as a radio host for RTHK Radio 3. He is a sought after music producer in Hong Kong as well, recording for many pop stars in Greater China. In addition, Michael spends time with various schools and universities doing workshops on vocal percussion.
Curriculum
Introduction to songwriting:
This course will inspire and impart an understanding of the popular theories and methods of contemporary songwriting. You will learn a number of fundamental and key techniques to unlock your own potential to develop your own unique style in songwriting.
In this course, you will learn to:
1. Discover the underlying principles of song composition
2. Set words to rhythm
3. Create effective melodies and structure
4. Engage simple exercises to tap into your imagination
5. Arrange your music
6. Understand the structures of popular music
7. Understand melody, rhythm, tempos, dynamics and contrast
Throughout this course you will be required to write and work on at least one song that you can present to the class either by reading or singing. You may also accompany your song with an instrument if you play one or a backing track if you so wish to create one. Every project will receive 4 hours of recording production with our music producer, Michael Lance, after which you will receive a digital copy of the projects and stems. After the project is completed, we will return to class to perform for one another.
For entirety of the course, please remember the most important rule is to be creative and have fun!!
